It is not clear that all OpenAI employees know either.
That is the real takeaway from Caitlin Kalinowski’s resignation. Not that OpenAI is uniquely villainous. It is not. Not that the U.S. government’s interest in AI for defense is illegitimate. Reasonable people can disagree on that. The fracture line has become visible. Whether anyone builds a bridge across it before the gap widens is a question that will define this decade.
